Linux India Events

Linux India Events is one of the world’s largest Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) events, held annually in India since 2001 (when it was known as Linux India Events). The event is highly focused on FOSS development and contribution. Over the years, it has attracted thousands of participants, and the speaker roster reads like a “Who’s Who” of FOSS contributors from across the world.

Linux India Events is a non-commercial event organised and run entirely by FOSS community volunteers. It does not represent the interests of any commercial entity.

This website is your primary resource for information about the event.

As we get closer to the event, you will find more and more information here.

Sponsors

An international event of the size of Linux India Events has huge expenses involved with it. The biggest costs involved are the venue, speaker hospitality, infrastructure expenses (such as the internet and network for the event), food for delegates, and much more.

The conference is committed to keeping the costs down to affordable levels for delegates who find themselves having to pay thousands (if not tens of thousands) of Rupees for commercial conferences.

The delegate fees for the entire event is 2500 INR per head (1500 INR for bonafide students, 5,000 INR for corporate/donor delegates). The amount is used entirely to provide food and conference materials to the delegates for all the days of the event, and is not used for any other expenses.

However, the remaining costs are covered by sponsors, and we have been very lucky to have had generous organisations sponsoring our event year after year.

In return for their sponsorship, we provide our sponsors wide exposure, and provide exhibition and other facilities.

Please note:

  • Under no circumstances will the organisers divulge names or contact information of delegates
  • Speaking slots are independent of sponsorship (sponsorship != speaking slot)
  • Only full sponsors get stall space at the event
  • Sponsorships will not be announced unless full sponsorship amount has been received.

Help Wanted

Linux India Events is an effort by volunteers – it is not a commercial event. Almost every task is handled by someone from Team Linux India, we very rarely, if ever, outsource things to a third party.

Every now and then, we will be calling for help, when we find that we do not have someone in the team who can handle a particular task, or where more people are needed.

Look under the “Help Wanted” submenu on the right of this website. When the need arises, we will list tasks  here, and we hope that people will step forward to pitch in. Note that we do not pay for work done (unless there are material expenses involved) – no one in Team Linux India does anything for the event for pay. But we do reward contributions (if nothing else a free ticket to Linux India Events, but often other stuff as well).

Thanks in advance for your help!
